Default If MLB ended today who would...

Who would have the bigger collapse?

The Red Sox would have go down as one of the biggest slumps in MLB history. Just a month ago, they were something to the tune (what I've heard) 18 games over the Yankees in the division and they were running the show. They now find themselves needing to win the next two against the O's and needing some help from the Yankees (of all teams). The Yanks are in complete control throughout the AL Playoffs and have secured home-field advantage. The Yanks can literally throw the last two games and let the Rays walk into the playoffs (which I think the Yankees should do, just so the Sox don't get in). The Red Sox are 4-19 in the month of September.

On the other hand, the Braves...who have lost 16 of 25 in the last month. However, they're in the same position as the Sox, they have two games left (both are against the Phillies). My St. Louis Cardinals are just a game back and have two remaining games against the lowly Houston Astros.

Both Cardinals and Rays would command home-field advantage in potential tie-breaking games.

I won't elaborate too much....

Boston a bigger choke, imo
I see Ellsbury doing his part.

Boston's down 0-1 ...top of 3rd.

TB up on Yankees 2-0 in bottom of the 2nd.

Things aren't looking good for the Bo Sox.

maybe ellsbury should be tested? in 4 previous seasons (although all 4 total just over 2 seasons worth of games) he had hit a total of 20 HR's. He hit his 32nd of the season..............

People tend to think there are only the wild card races left...

But Detroit and Texas are only 1 game apart for 2nd best record....same with Milwaukee and Arizona.........don't know how the tiebreakers work there, but it impacts first round matchups

So...some win or go home scenarios, win or have to play game 163 scenarios........but also some win or draw a 'tougher' first round matchup scenarios...

you mean like BOTH the Braves and former Braves blowing BIG wild card leads...and both OUT of the playoffs?

I still think the biggest collapse EVER is the '69 Cubs. Mets fans everywhere still thank the Cubs for that.

Individually I'd have to pick Atlanta's reliever KIMCR. That guy was solid all year. But not in September
