Well, I didn't always agree with Stern's style or policies, but I do give him credit for making the NBA into one of the greater sports leagues that we have in the US today.
Probably time to move on, though.

the question was to Rick I don't care who was the commish...the NBA would have evolved into what is has become anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, Stern has been instrumental in turning basketball into the streetball version of the original game it has become. Without him the phrase 'Jordan rules' would not have been coined. Maybe for the younger generation these changes have increased popularity...for guys like me, I more follow my Blazers via box scores than anything else anymore.
Not sad whatsoever to see him go- far too late IMBO

The average NBA salary is twenty times what it was when Mr. Stern started in February 1984.
Does this make the basketball any better to watch. I say heck no. I would much rather watch an NBA game on television when Mr. Stern started instead of what the NBA has become now. Does a person promise that Mr. Stern is actually going to leave because if we take the word of Mr. Selig he would have been gone by now.
